  1. I have become a leader through the various organizations I was a member of in undergrad (president) and sport teams (teammate). However, I think that you do not have to be the captain of a team or the president of a organization in order to be a leader. I feel that a leader can be that teammate or member who contributes by suggesting ideas and volunteering to take on additional responsibilities or roles. This person speaks up and goes the extra mile. They take the iniative and pulls that “teammate to the side for a pep talk”.

Monique, thats a great point. To be a leader doesn’t mean you need an appointed position. It simply means to voice your ideas and show you can take additional responsibilities. Teammates can definitely be leaders by contributing to the team and helping other teammates realize the team goal. I don’t mind being a team player as long as I can collaborate with others and have a clear vision where we’re headed.

I believe leadership qualities can accelerate the process of achieving goals because you have a supportive team with the same goal in mind. Leaders are visionaries and are always looking for ways to improve a situation.
